I want to buy subs for my car. I know you need an amplifier to go with it but what other things do i need to hook up the subs and amp. And so can i hook it up to my stock radio. i have a honda accord ex-L with navigation.

Is it good for a car when the driver shifts gears and skips a gear?

My husband sometimes drives my 2006 VW Jetta. It’s a manual 5 speed on the floor. When he drives it, he’ll start by shifting into 1st, go to 2nd, 3rd, and then shift right into 4th 5th skipping altogether. Is this good for my car? He says it does not hurt anything, that it’s actually good for gas mileage. I take extra care with my car and I say it can not be good for it. I want him to stop doing it. Someone help. Is this good or bad for my car?

Should I be hearing a ticking sound from the catalytic converter when the car is running?

My car makes a ticking noise, pretty loud and lasts a good 15-20 minutes after I turn off my car. I was informed by a mechanic that its normal down and the exhaust cooling. While this makes sense to me, still am uncomfortable bc the sound is a little louder than id like. . . Not to mention that it does not always do it. It ticks so while the car is running and I noticed this when I pulled up to another car. Any ideas as to why this is. Been to the dealer twice and gotten the runaround. In addition to getting prettty poor gas mileage. Want this fixed and want to go back knowing what I’m talking about. Very frustrating esp since the car is under warranty. Help! Not running the ac at all what told by the mechanic that the sound was coming from the converter.

Would you recommend I drive my car with 207,000 miles from Kentucky to Texas?

I’m likely to take a trip from central Kentucky to San Antonio or Houston over the New Year season. No matter which city I choose, it will be closed approximately 1200 miles each way, not counting the miles I drive once I’m at my destination. My car (Dodge) has 207 000 miles currently, and at the rate I drive it, it will probably have 220.000 miles by year’s end. My car is in GREAT mechanical condition, I’ve taken very good care of it, and I have a great mechanic. Original engine, still gets good gas mileage, and thankfully the only thing unoriginal are the brake pads! I’m not your stereotypical “poor Kentuckian.” In fact, I come from an upper middle-class home. I’m just really cheap! It’s more economical to just take my car rather than rent one. What would you recommend, and why? Thanks!

The value of warming up today’s engines?

I run a synthetic oil and my car is in a garage. We have arctic weather here, like 28 degrees. Gas mileage is reduced by starting the car, pulling down the garage door and driving off? Or should the car sit and warm up first? In either case, an engine at idle or driving a cold engine is burning gas. Does it matter one way or another? Please explain. Much thanks.
